During the 2012 Invest in Taiwan Summit for Overseas Taiwanese Businesses held on Sept. 28 last year, the Flex Group, an overseas Taiwanese sporting goods company operating in mainland China, signed a letter of intent to invest with the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA). On Jan. 6 this year the group followed up by opening a flagship store in Taichung City, fulfilling its commitment to help build the island's economy through concrete action.
Taiwan attracts overseas Taiwanese companies to return home and engage in innovation R&D or set up operations headquarters by offering advantages, such as a rich store of technological R&D capacity and management talent, which can help them strengthen their competitiveness and enhance their brand image. The Flex Group is drawn by the island's sources of textile- and sports-related functional materials as well as its advantages in terms of R&D and application, and has decided to establish more stores and build its corporate operating headquarters on the island. It also plans, in the future, to use the island to expand its production scale and leverage the island's manufacturing quality to develop the export market.
The Flex Group is just one of 20 overseas Taiwanese enterprises that signed letters of intent to invest with the MOEA during last year's summit; in total, they promised to invest NT$37.82 billion. Three-quarters of those commitments are already in the process of being carried out. The MOEA will continue strengthening its services for overseas Taiwanese enterprises returning to invest on the island, and the Executive Yuan's (Cabinet's) InvesTaiwan Service Center will help individual investment projects, through its one-stop investment service platform, to remove obstacles and speed up the progress of investment.
