The Small and Medium Enterprise and Startup Administration (SMESA) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), in collaboration with the Department of Industrial Technology (DoIT), led a delegation of 37 Taiwanese startups to participate in the 2026 SelectUSA Tech competition in the United States. The delegation achieved outstanding results, earning one first-place award, three second-place awards, and one third-place award-the highest number of awards among all participating economies demonstrating Taiwan's strong innovation capabilities and commercialization potential.
Taiwan also sent the largest international startup delegation to this year's competition, with eight Taiwanese startups selected as finalists across multiple SelectUSA Tech categories. Among the award winners, MegaPro Biomedical, an Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) spin-off, won first place in the Health Tech category. Black Solution Nanotech, VoltaSphere Tech, and United Kaohsiung Medical earned second-place honors in the Defense Tech, Energy Tech, and Open Tech categories, respectively, while LongLink received third place in the Open Tech category.
Prior to the competition, Minister of Economic Affairs Kung Ming-Hsin and senior government officials met with participating startups to offer their encouragement and support. They emphasized the importance of leveraging international platforms to connect with global resources, attract international investment, and bring innovative business models back to Taiwan, thereby promoting industrial upgrading and creating a virtuous cycle of global expansion and domestic development.
To further strengthen Taiwan-U.S. innovation ecosystem ties, the delegation also hosted Taiwan Startup Night. The event brought together nearly 100 leaders from government, industry, and the investment community, including representatives from the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Arizona. The gathering created valuable opportunities for Taiwanese startups to expand their presence in the U.S. market and further deepen bilateral economic and innovation cooperation.
