According to the statistics of Investment Commission of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, 1,718 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total amount of US$3,513,620,000 were approved from January to June 2019. This indicates an increase of 3.31% in the number of cases, and an increase of 16.99 % in FDI amount compared with the same period of 2018.
With regard to inward investment from Mainland China, 62 cases were approved with an amount of US$47,472,000 from January to June 2019. This indicates a decrease of 8.82% in the number of cases, and a decrease in the FDI amount (65.48%) compared with the same period of 2018. Aggregated from July 2009 to June 2019, 1,290 cases were approved with a total investment amount added up to US$2,235,263,000.
In terms of Taiwan’s outbound investment (except Mainland China), 313 projects were registered from January to June 2019 with a total amount of US$3,567,919,000 indicating an increase of 10.99% in the number of cases but a decrease of 26.46 % in the amount as compared with the same period of 2018.
As for Taiwan’s outward investment to Mainland China, 282 applications have been approved from January to June 2019, indicating a decrease of 10.76 % compared with the same period of 2018. The approved investment amount is US$2,078,934,000, 51.01 % less than the same period in 2018.
