The Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) named the City of Espoo in Finland as the “Intelligent Community of the Year” on June 7 in London’s America Square. This year also marked the first time for Taiwan to have three cities on the shortlist in the same year, as Taoyuan City, Tainan City, and Chiayi City were nominated as the Top7 Intelligent Communities of 2018.
In 2018, the Awards Theme for Intelligent Community Forum was promoting humanizing data as the 7th success factor in determining community's competitiveness in the digital economy. Humanizing data refers to how city development can be better enhanced via open data and other digital tools to humanize policy and improve citizen's quality of life, and Taiwan’s public policy resonates with this approach by focusing on local needs and resident experiences in advancing our smart city development.
The ultimate goal of building smart cities is to enhance citizen's quality of life with prevalent smart services. Through continuous participation in the Intelligent Community Forum and the annual awards program, Taiwan proudly takes part as a member of the international community by sharing our insights and accomplishments. While Taiwan achieved unprecedented results this year, the Bureau will continue its efforts to advance Taiwan’s smart city development through policy tools such as the ongoing Smart City Project, as well as joint partnership with local governments and industry stakeholders to shape Taiwan into a model for future intelligent communities in Southeast Asia.
