Japan is an important source of investments and technologies in Taiwan, and ranks 1st in number of investments and 4th in investment amount in terms of investments made by overseas compatriots. The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) assembled members of related departments and competent authorities of related industries into an overseas investment promotion delegation. After taking an inventory of innovations in the 5+2 industries, the Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program, important projects of state-owned enterprises, investment opportunities in key industries of the MOEA, and current gaps in the domestic industrial chain, the MOEA targeted Japanese companies with key technologies for investment promotion. The delegation will actively visit the headquarters for foreign companies and invite them to make investments and engage in technical cooperation in Taiwan, so as to fill in the gaps of the domestic industrial chain, drive industrial upgrade, and enhance industrial competitiveness.
This year the MOEA’s investment promotion delegation to Japan will be led by Political Deputy Minister Tseng Wen-Sheng. The delegation will visit the headquarters of Japanese companies with key technologies, including semiconductor, artificial intelligence (AI), aerospace, high value petrochemical, logistics, electronics, and information technology, in Tokyo between September 18th and 21st, and will promote experience exchanges and cooperation between Taiwan and Japan in energy industry technologies.
Members of the MOEA’s investment promotion delegation to Japan include the Department of Investment Services, Bureau of Energy, InvesTaiwan Service Center, Committee for Aviation Industry Development, High-Value Petrochemical Industry Promotion Project Office, Taiwan-Japan Industrial Collaboration Promotion Office, and Green Energy and Environment Research Laboratories. The investment promotion delegation will encourage excellent Japanese companies to invest in Taiwan, which will drive technological upgrade and increase employment opportunities, and strengthen key capabilities of Taiwan’s industrial chain.
