Kung Ming-Hsin, Political Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), and Ting Yen-Che, Deputy Magistrate of Yunlin County, both attended the ground breaking ceremony for Tokuyama’s new plant in Yunlin Technology-based Industrial Park today (3rd). The ceremony was personally hosted by Hiroshi Yokota, Representative Director and President of Tokuyama Corporation’s headquarters in Japan. Tokuyama is a leading manufacturer of semiconductor chemical materials in Japan, and supplies its products to TSMC, UMC, Winbond, and ASE. After establishing its first plant in Hsinchu in 1996, Tokuyama invested NT$600 million to establish its second plant in Yunlin, Taiwan. Tokuyama’s Yunlin plant will become the most advanced production plant of high-purity IPA, which is required in advanced semiconductor processes.
Political Deputy Minister Kung pointed out during his speech that the semiconductor industry is an extremely important industry in Taiwan due to its global competitiveness. Taiwan’s semiconductor industry is a global leader with respect to technical ability, product development, and production applications. And Taiwan is the world’s most intensive semiconductor production base with a complete semiconductor industrial chain. Of the top 20 companies in the global foundry industry in 2017, TSMC ranked first and UMC ranked third, proving that Taiwan has an excellent industrial environment for developing technology industries.
Political Deputy Minister Kung also explained the extraordinary contribution of Tokuyama to the development of Taiwan’s semiconductor industry, as Tokuyama’s semiconductor chemical materials (high-purity IPA, developer) meet the demand of Taiwan’s semiconductor companies to further upgrade their advanced processes. The company continuing to establish plants in Taiwan sets the paradigm of multinational semiconductor companies increasing investments in Taiwan.
