As the global aviation market continues to be bullish, MOEA has selected the European market as focus area. In May, Mr. Jang-Hwa Leu, Acting Director General of the Industrial Development Bureau, and Mr. Nuan-Hsuan Ho, Chairman of China Airlines, led a delegation to attend an exchange meeting between aviation suppliers from Taiwan and France in Toulouse, Europe’s hub of aviation industry.
The purpose of this meeting is to foster collaboration between Taiwanese suppliers and European manufacturers in areas such as airframe composite tail section, engine blades, engine casing, fasteners, and other components, and gradually expand into high-value subsystem and system parts. We hope the collaboration scope will include airframe, engine, and eventually landing gear and interior systems. The meeting provided a chance for NORDAM and China Airlines to discuss NORDAM’s potential investment in Taiwan. By building up Taiwan’s capacity in maintaining and repairing reverse thrusts and composite materials, Taiwan is expected to become NORDAM’s exclusive maintenance provider in the Asia-Pacific region. A talk between Airbus and China Airlines was also arranged for the discussion of the possibility to establish a maintenance center in Taiwan. If Taiwan can become Airbus’s maintenance and service center in Northeast Asia, the center will be the stepping stone for Taiwan’s aviation industry to enter into European market.
As the Toulouse meeting was a great success, Airbus will send a delegation to Taiwan in early October for further discussion with local suppliers.
According to the Southern Branch of Traditional Industry Coaching Team, the government will continue to bring together resources from local governments, domestic aviation companies, and relevant suppliers, and help to connect domestic manufacturers with European aviation market. It will also move on to promote the R&D collaboration between companies in southern Taiwan and international manufacturers for key aerospace engineering technologies in order to create more job opportunities and stimulate economic development.
