Taiwan is a free and democratic country with the rule of law, political freedoms, and stability. To continue to establish positive interactive mechanisms between China and Taiwan and intensify economic, social, and cultural exchanges, China and Taiwan signed the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) on June 29, 2010 to strengthen economic and trade relations, effectively reduce political risks on both sides of the strait, and dispel foreign investors' concern regarding unstable cross-strait relations. Unlike Hong Kong and Macau, Taiwan is not bound by the one country two system model and offers more advantages for protection of foreign investments.
Taiwanese non-government organizations (NGOs) have advanced into the international community with the advancement of globalization. They have gradually taken on more important roles through regional alliances, communication between organizations, and humanitarian aid, and clearly showed the results of Taiwan's social and economic development and capacity for giving back to the international community to make more contributions for world peace.
Taiwanese NGOs have played increasingly more important roles in domestic public policies in human rights, politics, environmental protection, education, health care, public health, and humanitarian aid. They have provided recommendations for government administration and many NGOs have done all that they could to demonstrate Taiwan's capacity for providing aid to the international community. The "Love from Taiwan" logo has become a common sight in post-disaster reconstruction projects across the world.
